Welcome to Community of Grace United Methodist Church!  We’re glad you’re here!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions & Answers)

Welcome! We recognize that many people who visit a church for the first time do so with a bit of fear of the unknown, but we hope that you feel warmly welcomed and comfortable at Community of Grace. Community of Grace UMC is a spiritual home to people from all walks and stations of life, believers and questioners, people from a range of backgrounds and faith perspectives, who come together to worship God, become more like Jesus, and serve God’s creation.

We have highlighted some key information in this section, but the best way to get to know Community of Grace is to talk with the people here. Don’t hesitate to strike up a conversation with our pastor, greeters, or the people in your pew, and learn more about our life of worship, fellowship, and service together.

What times are your worship services?

Community of Grace offers two Sunday morning worship services: A traditional worship  at 10am, a blended style of contemporary and traditional services with a full choir and children’s moments.

What accommodations do you have for people with special needs?

Community of Grace is 100% accessible to people with mobility issues. All entryways are available without steps. We suggest that those who use a cane or wheelchair use the West Parking Lot Entrance, especially during inclement weather. All primary areas of the church are accessible without steps.

For those who are Hard of Hearing, our sound system is equipped with a transmitter that broadcast to special headphone receivers. Just stop by our tech booth, they will be happy to help you.

We also have Braille versions of the hymn books for the visually impaired.

What happens during a worship service?

As you enter the church a friendly greeter will meet you and give you a bulletin to guide you through the service. All of our services feature reading, preaching, prayer, and music. At times, you will be invited to stand, sing, pray, be in silence, or read responsively. Though similar in important ways, each service has its own style and flavor.

Communion Sundays are the first Sunday of the month, we celebrate communion twelve times a year on Sundays and at other special services, as well. Our communion table is open to everyone – baptized or not, sure or not, saint or sinner or a little of both.

At all of our services we maintain the practice of receiving an offering to support the church’s ministries. We welcome your gifts and encourage everyone to live a life marked by generosity. If you are unable to give financially, please consider an offering of time or talent to the church, another organization, or a neighbor in need.

Do you have Sunday School or offer childcare?

Children and families of all sorts are welcome and cherished at Community of Grace UMC. Childcare is available at the  Sunday 10:00  worship service and at special services.  Sunday School programs are offered at 9:00 for children in kindergarten through high school.  Adult Sunday school classes are also available such the Wired Word, Discussion, and Lecture

What should I wear?

Some people come dressed in their Sunday best. Others dress more casually. Either way, we believe that God cares more about the state of our hearts than the state of our attire, and encourage you to dress the way that feels most appropriate to you.

How long are the services?

Both the traditional and contemporary worship services last about an hour.

Is there fellowship time before or after worship?

After each worship service on Sunday morning, the Fellowship Hall is open for a time of fellowship, coffee, and refreshment. We invite you to come early,  strike up a conversation, and make some new friends!
